The word tapestry has woven itself into the English language to the point that acquiring a true hand-crafted tapestry that is designed and woven by a gifted tapestry artist can be a confusing experience. Many web based businesses selling wall tapestries, wall hangings, tapestry wall hangings, etc. buy them from European and Oriental factories where they are frequently mass produced by modern computerized looms. While these items are affordable, they lack the quality, richness and durability of a true tapestry that has been hand-crafted by a tapestry artist using centuries–old techniques with every stitch put in place by hand. The designs are woven only once and never reproduced so that each tapestry is truly a unique piece of art.

Working primarily by commission, Ulrika Leander designs and hand-weaves large-scale tapestries for a wide variety of architectural environments. Occasionally however, inspired by a particular experience or idea, Leander will weave a tapestry that has not been commissioned and a limited number of these pieces are available for purchase.
